Though the posting has been absent since September, things have quietly ticked along behind the scenes.
With an undertaking like ours, you need to know that your bike is going to stand up to all the grief that you’re going to throw at it. In my personal capacity as single speed enthusiast and general outlier, I have had the privilege of enjoying the support of Mike Anderson at The Bike Hutt in Wellington.
Though situated some 35km from Wellington, I frequently encourage people to visit Mike for a detailed service or for general advice on their bikes. He is a skilled mechanic and a good sort.
And, when I turned up at The Bike Hutt with two haphazardly arranged bicycles, seeking Mike’s assistance in getting them to a state that will handle 2,500km of torture, he barely batted a sultry Texan lash.
It is with a sense of pride that I wish to publicly thank Mike for his support in this endeavour. Having him onboard means that we can go into this thing confident that our bikes will be beautifully prepared – as that is the standard that I have come to associate with the work that comes out of his shop.
So if you’re in need of a proper set-up (especially with regard to cyclocross bikes) or if you just want to check out somewhere a little different – charmingly off-kilter and very pleasant – head on out to the Hutt and give the lads a visit.
Tell him Tom sent you and you’ll receive a hug and/or a free coffee…
