Several years ago, I won an Ultimo cycling shirt as a spot prize at a local MTB race. I didn’t think much of it at the time – simply taking it home and chucking it in the drawer. Little did I know that over the next couple of years I would reach for that top more often than any other.
After a couple of years, riding for the great bike shop The Bike Hutt meant that I no longer donned the Ultimo spot prize top for races, but it was always in rotation for training days or weekend epics. When I pulled the Ultimo jersey on, I forgot it was there and got on with the ride. That’s what you want in a cycling top.
So, given my experience with their products, I am excited to welcome Ultimo on board for our Length of New Zealand adventure.
By clicking the banner above, you can check out Ultimo’s website and you’ll quickly see that they do a lot of great custom work for racers and endurance junkies alike.
For us, it will be great to have a well proven product to ensure our comfort on those long days in the saddle. Plus, having a custom drawn kit will be a great addition to the exposure and visibility of the ride.
In addition to kitting us out, the Youthride cycling jersey will be added to their online shop at http://shop.ultimoclothing.co.nz/. A percentage of the proceeds will go straight to Youthline, so if you need a new riding top and want to help out the organisation, you can get along and nab yourself a Youthride jersey.
I’m very grateful to Ultimo Custom Clothing, and in particular to Allen Wray for making the deal such a pleasant and simple interaction. I sent Allen a couple of sketches from Bolivia that I had done on mspaint, and he came back with a couple of mock-ups which were put to the public forum.
After the verdict of the masses, and a suggestion from my good friend Oli Brooke-White to combine some of the better features of the prototypes, I’ve settled on this design:
So if that looks like something you’d be into wearing, and if you want to help out a great organisation at the same time, keep an eye on this site and I’ll announce when they’re available for purchase.
